GUIDELINES FOR SMACHOs AT BRS WESt
One of the most wonderful experiences at BRS West is sharing smachos, happy times, together. Please read the follow simcha planning guidelines in advance of planning you simcha at BRS West.
PLEASE NOTE: Only members of BRS / BRS West in good standing are permitted to host a simcha at BRS West. For information and to join membership please click here .
PROCEDURE:
It is the goal of our shul to avoid hosting multiple smachos on the same Shabbos, and priority is given to the first registrants. We understand that sometimes it may be impossible to observe this rule, and we depend on the good will of our members to ensure that scheduling conflicts are worked out amicably, in the best interests of the Baalei Simcha and community.
All families interested in hosting a simcha must meet in person with the Rabbi well in advance of the simcha to coordinate the event. Please email Rabbi Blumenthal to co-ordinate.
As our community has continued to grow, we understand that there might be multiple smachot occurring in the broader community. We recommend avoiding situations in which classmates will have to choose which simcha to attend. Conflicts also should be cleared with the school in which a bar mitzvah or bat mitzvah is attending.
Baalei simcha should take no other steps, such as contacting kiddush committee members, selecting caterers, or commencing bar mitzvah preparation, prior to meeting with the Rabbi and clearing the date of the proposed simcha.
Once the date has been cleared, please arrange a meeting with our Ritual Committee Chair, Daniel Rosenthal (561-414-3622) no later than 4 months in advance of the bar mitzvah so that he can listen to the Bar Mitzvah and note his progress. This practice is intended to make sure that the bar mitzvah is progressing in a timely way and to avoid unnecessary pressure upon the bar mitzvah in the weeks immediately prior to the event. Bar Mitzvah boys will only be permitted to lead services if they have met with Daniel at least 4 months in advance of the Bar Mitzvah.
TEFILLAH:
Baalei simcha are able to designate their own בעלי תפילות on the occasion of the simcha. Guest Baalei Tefillah as expected to follow the minhagim and protocol of our Shul. Please consult with the Gabbaim for any questions/concerns. Please note that members who are observing a Yahrzeit take precedence over those celebrating a simcha.
OTHER ARRANGEMENTS:
All other Shabbos arrangements, such as, divrei torah, special scheduling accommodations, Shaloshudis, or other types of arrangements, must be made first by addressing those with the Rabbi, Gabbaim and Kiddush Committee and then, addressing them as indicated.
